Be a Brilliant Person by Becoming Career Minded

I propose we shift our mindset in the way we view our job or career path in what Career Professionals of Canada coins, "Careerpreneurialism" or "CareerPrepreneurs."

Career-oriented + entrepreneur = careerpreneur

By now, some of us know that the labour market has a direct impact on one's career development trajectory.

If not, imagine this: perhaps you thought of pursuing a career path in the Forestry industry. After receiving your post-secondary degree as a Logging/Forestry Equipment Operator, the Canadian government decided to put a restriction on the amount of trees logging companies can cut down per year. Demand is low and finding a job in your acquired specialty is next to nothing.

Here is another example: you pursue a career path in specialized programming that brings in an competitive industry salary of $93,000 per year. In the next 10 years, AI-powered programming takes over and now the average wage has been brought down to $15.00 cdn per hour.

Deciding what to do next in can be mind boggling.

How do you be Career Minded?

"It's about being tactful in how you envision career development or change."

"Being prepared will make a world a difference."

If you are careerpreneur you are proactive in scripting your own career path.

As many of us have noticed already, times has drastically changed from what it was 10 years ago. The employment world continues to grow and evolve. What's more, receiving work advise from our grandparents or even parents may not always be a viable option.

The "traditional ways" of viewing job security, growth, promotions, or company loyalty has shifted. Good performance may not always equate to permanent employment or company promotion. Oftentimes, the employees' are to suffer the changes or consequences of company decision-making.

So, how should we approach it?

Shifting the way we view our work life:

  • Become an independent agent.

  • Equating personal growth and development as a promotion.

  • No longer seeing security linked to employment permanence.
