RPG Saga: Journey Into The Pursuit of Self-Discovery

How to Envision Career Development as an RPG Gamer#1

In this blog, I will be sharing insights on how to envision career development as a gamer. An open world MMORPG where you can explore, be entertained, challenged, fail and succeed. In doing so, you will have the capability to level up your own physical and mental competencies and achievements in the world of employment.

Career Development rpg Gamer Level 1

Let's be creative and reimagine. For most of us, we have completed the world of employment tutorial after reaching the highest social standard: adulthood. Congratulations! You have officially reached level 1. In order to reach level 2, we must first complete the career objectives by understanding how to envision career development as an RPG gamer.

Our first quest, self discovery.

Merriam webster dictionary defines it as:

"The act or process of achieving self-knowledge." Examples on the Web: "This process not only enriches your perceptual world, but also offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery and a deeper understanding of the intricate workings of the mind."

For some of us, we had parents who had the luxury of time, thought and effort in being involved in our lives. Included are peers or friendship to assist in steering each other through the challenges of life. These are people who sacrifice their assets in seeking a relationship with us. Ultimately, helping us make better choices for our future. If not, that's okay. You are here now and ready to find out other ways in doing so.

Self-discovery begins with researching who you are: what your traits, strengths, weaknesses, core values, talents, or skills are. To level up, we must first know what our special and non-special gaming attributes are.

The six non-special attributes (credit goes to Dungeons & Dragons) are:

"Physical" Abilities

  • Strength - measuring physical power and carrying capacity

  • Constitution - measuring endurance, stamina and healthiness

  • Dexterity - measuring agility, motor coordination, finger and manual and reflexes

"Mental" Abilities

  • Intelligence - measuring reasoning, knowledge, memory, logic and rationality

  • Wisdom - measuring self-awareness, limitations, and insight

  • Charisma - measuring social interaction skills such as, leadership and persuasion

The special gaming attributes are:

"Unique" Abilities

  • Talent - measuring abilities you are born with and can execute it far more easily

  • Personality Characteristic - attributes aligned to your unique individual make-up

Self-discovery can be achieved in many different ways

To name a few:

  1. Sit, think and write it down.

  2. Ask your parents.

  3. Go through a check list of likes and don't likes.

  4. What do you tend to spend the most time with and why?

  5. Being aware of your thoughts, choices and actions.

  6. Ensuring its legal and safe to do so, pursue a new activity.

Once we have a clear idea about what our special and non-special attributes are, you have reached level 2.

"There is no age limit. Its never too late for self-discovery."

self-discovery is not a race

Self-discovery is not a race, its a SSS rated quest.

Despite having a few battle scars, worked numerous differing jobs and completed post-secondary school. I did not reach level 2 until the age of 25. It was only made possible through professional assistance, supportive mentors, and my desire for change.
